The Apocalypse Is Coming... Brian Trenchard-Smith Style

With the recent hype surrounding global warming, war, tsunamis, the large hadron collider, viral epidemics, and the misunderstanding of the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, it seems like everybody is jumping on the apocalypse flick bandwagon. For the most part, I'll watch anything where zombies or diseases wipe out Earth's population, but I typically don't pay much attention to disaster films. Hollywood blockbusters like Armageddon, 2012, Volcano, and Outbreak are more about effects than a solid script or good acting, and are rarely worth the two for $8.99 price tag found in Wal-Mart budget bins.

So why is Arctic Blast any different from 2012? Three words, one hyphen: Brian Trenchard-Smith. That's right, the legend of Ozploitation is going to give us doomsday, BTS style. Despite the unfortunate title, which just sounds like some new flavor of gum, I have high expectations for Arctic Blast.

Synopsis:

When a solar eclipse sends a colossal blast of super chilled air towards the earth, it sets off a catastrophic chain of events that threatens to engulf the world in ice!

JACK TATE is a brilliant yet troubled physicist specializing in Earth Sciences. Complicating his life is a messy divorce from the local medical examiner EMMA (Alexandra Davies) and a strained relationship with his teenaged daughter ANDREA (Indiana Evans). When Jack learns about the bizarre deaths of his colleagues, he sets off to discover the cause. By piecing together the chain of events: the solar eclipse, a sudden drop in temperature of the mesosphere, and a rip in the ozone layer, Jack concludes that all of these elements have combined to create the ultimate disaster--a new ICE AGE!

With part of the South Pacific in a deep freeze and a mass evacuation underway in coastal Australia and New Zealand. It must be stopped before millions more die.

I'm assuming that "brilliant yet troubled" is just PR code for "totally fucked up genius", which should make this movie a lot of fun. If you have never seen a Trenchard-Smith movie, I highly suggest you check him out. BTW, if you've never seen a leprechaun emerge from a grown man's penis, you can kill two birds with one stone and watch Leprechaun in Space.

Arctic Blast is currently in post-preduction, I'll keep you posted with any updates I get on this one.
